My name is Michelle, and I am a practicing litigation attorney in North Carolina. I love being an attorney. I love interacting with clients. I love interacting with other attorneys (most of the time). I like interacting with all the people I meet in court. However, my cup runneth over and I found that the stress of my work was starting to affect my love for my work. And, for lack of a better term, I was not having that. I loved the law and my work way too much for that. So, I started to think about how to practice law in the way I wanted to practice law. I know we, as lawyers, have endless resources on how to do the best legal research, and how to present the best arguments in court. But I wanted a resource, a place to go to discuss thoughts about how it was to actually be a lawyer. A practicing lawyer. One that goes to work every day and actually practices law. I am interested in what keeps us motivated, and what slows us down. What keeps us engaged and what bores us to tears. What about our work feeds us and what starves us. I started looking for that on the web and could not find it. So, I decided to create it myself. Here is a space where I could explore how lawyers, like myself, can practice and just live as lawyers in the most adaptive and mindful way, so we don’t turn away from the profession that we love so much (at least I love so much). This site is not about talking about clients (obviously, we can’t). More so talking about the work…the actual work of being a practicing lawyer.

I plan to do this by posting about revelations and thoughts I have about different ways to approach work life as a practicing lawyer. Also, my hope is to gain perspective through listening and talking to other lawyers and jurists about what they do to maintain their spirit in this profession we love so much. This site is not for talking about clients. Period. Other than the obvious professional conduct rules that prohibit such conduct, this is a site for us attorneys and our work, not about complaining about our clients. I firmly believe there is an ethical way for us to talk about our work without referencing particular clients and their cases. This is not a site for them, it is a site for us. Thanks for reading, and happy to have you join me.
